JEDDAH, 21 May 2004 — Earnest Young crushed Talha Optics with the help of Javid's unbeaten half century and Asif's valuable innings of 40 runs at Juffali grounds, while Saudia Majestique elected to field after winning the toss and that cost them the match against Saudi General Insurance, who were paced by Qamar Aijaz, at the Hempel Paints ground in the Friday league Division II of the Jeddah Cricket League (JCL).
Earnest Young scored 219 in 20 overs with Javed hitting 51 (4x4) not out and Asif scored quickfire 40 (3x4, 2x6).
Sheshadhari contributed 21 runs each and with the support of 27 extras Earnest Young piled up the runs, none of Talha Optics bowlers impressed.
In reply, Talha Optics were bundled out for a paltry 134 runs in 13.3 overs. Adil 53 and Tariq 28 stood out as Hari took two wickets and Azhar, Amer, Murli and Sheshadhari took one wicket each. Earnest Young won by 85 runs.
Saudia Majestique invited Saudi General Insurance to bat first and were punished by their opponents, who rattled up 193 for 5 in 18 overs. Qamar Aijaz made 88 (9x4, 2x6) runs in just 45 balls, spraying his shots to every corner of the ground.
Other performances with the bat were an unbeaten 38 by Majed Khan, cautious 27 by Abdul Rub and a quick 21 by Shakeel. Iqbal 2 for 29, Nayeem Khan 2 for 43 and Yousuf 1 for 36 tried their best to contain their opponents.
In reply, Saudia Majestique started well as their opener Zahid, the veteran of Saudia Milk team, scored 44 runs mostly with the help of singles and doubles. Zubair and Iqbal contributed 26 runs apiece for their team as they were held to 170 for 7, losing by 23 runs.
