RIYADH, 18 June 2004 — During the battle of the top forty (40) finalists in the final showdown, Jun Ausa splashed his deadly forms to capture the coveted All Filipino Independence Day bowling tournament at the FAL Bowling Alley.
The event which turned out to be a grand success was organized through the collective efforts of the organizing committee consisting of Gigi Enriquez, the overall chairman with members Willy Nogoy, Fred Zacarias, Joey Maningas, Jasper Durago, Arnel Gordovez, Manny Isles, Patrick Dilla and Ramon Catipon.
The sponsors were the Kabayan Hotel through its marketing & sales manager, Marvin Cacnio and Ms. Karen Ann Enriquez, account manager, Samba-Speedcash through its assistant manager, Zahid Junejo, SkyFreight Forwarders through its regional manager, Jimmy Hugo, Philippine Airlines through its country manager, Ruperto “Jun” Ordillano, Jr., FAL Bowling Center through its Lessee, Khalid Hamoud, Bulacan Sports Masters Tailoring through Rey Cunanan, Pinoy Supermarket through its operations manager, Jimmy Magdalena and the ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel (TFC) through Rene Fuentes, National Sales Manager, Middle-East. The donors were Fred Zacarias, Larry Mondoy, Boy Pacheco, Peak Restaurant and Allan dela Rosa.
Ausa won the title via sudden death format when he finished ahead among his rivals. Ausa tallied a six game series handicap of 1,252 pinfalls. Coming in close second was Ausa’s uncle, Sulaiman Jesusco, who was leading in the fifth game but lost the chance to win the title when he failed to spare a single pins in the crucial match. Jesusco scored a total series handicap of 1,233 in six games. Ely Fanugao secured the third position with a series of 1,229 while landing in fourth position was Willie de Mesa with a series of 1228.
Placing fifth was Armin Isles with 1,222 and in sixth position was Erick Perez with 1,222. Larry Mondoy finished seventh with a series of 1,221 while grabbing the eight, ninth and tenth positions were Fidel Ferrer (1,218), Boyet Baclig (1,214) and the fastrising Ramon Catipon (1,195).
Ed Santos was the tournament’s high game handicap winner during the elimination round. Santos rolled a game high of 279.
Noli Ritual, Chair of OFWBR and in-charge for the press release and for the solicitation of the sponsors emceed the affair.
