ALKHOBAR, 11 August 2004 — The AGE in Trade CC will play two friendly matches against Madinah Cricket Club next week, it is learned here yesterday. Al Mira International Trading Est. company has agreed to sponsor the matches.
The motive of the friendly matches is to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day, which opens on Aug. 14.
On receiving an invitation from Syed Zahid Ali, president of the Madinah Cricket Association, to mark the Independence Day in style, the AGE has decided to visit Madinah, said the team’s captain Sikander Farooqui.
AGE CC, the oldest cricket club in Eastern Province, was established in 1978. This is the first time that AGE CC is visiting MCA to mark the occasion.
The matches will be played for two days on Aug. 19-20. The first 25-over match will be played on Thursday while on Friday, the second match will be played for 35 overs.
The AGE also announced that the club will play inter-city matches against Yanbu Cricket League in mid-September on the special invitation of Abdul Jabbar, president of the YCL. The matches are meant as part of the game’s promotion and betterment, and for arranging this type of matches would give the game a big boost, said Farooqui while appreciating the big support from Farhat Mahmood, president of the Eastern Province Cricket Association.
