The holy Qur’an will soon be available in audiocassettes with its translation and meaning in English. This is a new project, described as the first of its kind, undertaken by Darussalam, a multilingual international Islamic publishing house headquartered in Riyadh. The project, by Dr. Muhsin Khan, is supported by the recitation of the Qur’an by Sheikh Nadir Al-Qallawi and the translation read by Bilal Abdul-Karim. Darussalam’s Chief Executive Abdul-Malik Mujahid supervises the presentation.

Darussalam is presently working on the translation of the Qur’an in some more languages like Persian, Turkish, Indonesian and Russian. It has already published the interpretation of the meanings of the Qur’an in English, Urdu, Hindi, Spanish, French, Malayalam, Albanian, Pushto and Bangla.

The publishing house has since its inception been producing books on Islam in Arabic, English, Urdu, Spanish, French, Hindi, Persian, Malayalam, Turkish, Indonesian, Russian, Albanian and Bangla. It has to its credit more than 900 Islamic titles in 13 languages. The main theme of these books is to present the fundamentals of Islam as explained by the most recognized Islamic scholars.

The Qur’an is the revelation of Allah for the guidance of His creatures. Since the Qur’an is the primary source of Islamic teachings, the correct understanding of the Qur’an is necessary for every Muslim. The Tafsir of Ibn Kathir is the most renowned and accepted explanation of the Qur’an in the world. In it one finds the best presentation of Hadiths, history and scholarly commentary.

The publishing house has translated this Tafsir in the English language in 10 volumes, claimed to be the first of its kind. Many scholars were engaged from the United States, Canada, Egypt, Pakistan and India for the translation that completed in two years. The Tafsir is the most complete and authentic source to understand the Qur’an.

Darussalam has moved a step further to use the multimedia and electronic technology in the service of Islam. Recently, in its Lahore branch, Darussalam established an IT section to introduce Islamic books on audio, videocassettes and CDs. Now, along with the establishment of its own studio, the presentations are in the form of cassettes and computer devices known as Baba Salam, providing ease in the recitation and memorization of the Qur’an and other supplications.
