JEDDAH, 5 September 2004 — The first women’s technical college to be set up in Jeddah seeks to train some 800,000 Saudi women for various technical and vocational jobs required by the labor market.
“We have received initial approval from the Higher Education Ministry for the college,” said Hussa Al-Aun, a businesswoman and chairperson of Al-Bidaya Trading Company in Jeddah.
She said the college would be established within the compound of the women’s industrial city in Jeddah. “The college will also train women on carrying out maintenance work at women’s schools, colleges and universities during working hours,” Al-Eqtisadiah quoted Al-Aun as saying.
Another focal area would be the training of supervisors required for women’s training centers, which presently depend on staff from the Ministry of Education.
