JEDDAH, 11 September 2004 — Education Minister Dr. Muhammad Al-Rasheed has called upon parents, educators and teachers to make a joint effort to erase deviant thoughts from the minds of Saudi youth. He also urged them to instill a quest for learning in the students’ minds.
In a message on the eve of the new academic year, the minister also called upon teachers not to act as muftis giving their rulings on various religious issues. “They should rather concentrate on teaching the lessons in school textbooks,” he stated.
“Everybody must work sincerely with trust and endeavor to raise the banner of Islam and the nation and strengthen national unity. We should also encourage our students to make substantial contributions toward nation building,” Rasheed told the teachers.
