The Canon CX350 Color Card Printer allows the printing of your own business cards in-house. Capable of printing up to 40 business cards a minute, the CX350 enables you to create the cards you want, when you need them.
The CX350 offers six-color printing, with a high 600 dpi print resolution. The unit utilizes separate ink tanks. When a specific color runs out, you replace only that tank. This keeps operating costs down.
Canon’s ready-cut paper ensures problem-free printing. A high capacity paper feeder holds up to 170 business cards, for smooth and reliable feeding. Operating the CX350 is equally simple and no special training is needed.
The CX350 can be shared easily between multiple PCs as optional connectivity allows it to fit seamlessly into most network environments. A USB 2.0 high-speed interface boosts overall productivity. The printer also supports many software programs, plus PDF file formats, making card creation flexible.
LG Biometric Technology
LG Electronics has released an Arabic language version of the latest generation LG IrisAccess 3000 authentication technology. LG IrisAccess 3000 allows for biometric identification by analyzing the unique pattern of the human iris. The system’s new Arabic software will make the technology more accessible for security professionals across the region.
“With the new software, all menu lists are in Arabic, as well as all audio instructions. This makes for greater ease of use in a variety of security applications, including border control, building security, transportation security for airlines and airports and security for the prison and judicial system,” said Mohammed Murad, director, Sales and Business Development, LG Electronics USA, LG Iris Technology Division. “The technology also boasts world-class interoperability, so as further advances are made in the industry, existing data can be transferred or integrated without the need for expensive infrastructure upgrades.”
To use LG IrisAccess 3000, a person glances into a camera and the biometric technology captures the iris pattern, digitally processes it into a 512-byte IrisCode record, compares it to those in a database and automatically makes the authentication without the need for PIN numbers, passwords or cards. The available system configurations include fixed and remote optical units, enabling the authentication technology to be used everywhere from customs check-in desks to office entrances.
IBM’s First Biometric ThinkPad
IBM has brought to the Middle East the world’s first biometric ThinkPad notebook computer with an integrated fingerprint reader. The fingerprint reader is built into select models of the ThinkPad T42 and T42p. The reader is located on the wrist rest below the arrow keys. To use the reader, a user swipes his finger across a small horizontally oriented sensor to log-on to the system, software applications, websites or databases.
The scanning process takes only seconds, combining convenience with strong notebook security. The type of fingerprint reader in the ThinkPad captures more data than a traditional “picture” capture window because it scans more of the fingertip’s surface area, helping to eliminate misidentification.
IBM has also enhanced its hardware and software-based Embedded Security Subsystem by releasing a new level of Client Security Software, Version 5.4, with a secure Password Manager. The new version allows fingerprint identification and complex pass phrases to be used interchangeably or in combination. The new software and the embedded security chip are seamlessly integrated with the fingerprint reader, protecting vital security information, such as encryption keys, electronic credentials and pass phrases and guarding against unauthorized user access.
