Ten Killed in Bangladesh Accidents on Eid Day

DHAKA, 16 November 2004 — Ten people were killed and 50 injured in a fatal collision among three passenger buses on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Khadghar in eastern Comilla district on the morning of the Eid Al-Fitr yesterday.

Police said the accident occurred when a Chittagong-bound bus from Dhaka collided head-on with another Dhaka-bound bus from Noakhali at the point. “In no time, another Dhaka-bound bus from Chittagong rammed the Dhaka-bound bus from Noakhali from behind,” says a spot account of the triangular collision, reaching Dhaka last night.

Two drivers of the first two ill-fated buses and three unknown passengers died instantly in the deadly accident.

Of the injured, 23 were admitted to Gouripur Hospital where three unidentified men succumbed to their injuries. Besides, an unknown woman and a minor child died at Chandina Health Complex.

Of the ten dead persons, only Hanif Miah, hailed from Begumganj of Noakhali district, and the driver of the Chittagong-bound bus from Dhaka were identified.

Identities of the rest were not immediately known. Among them one is a woman and another is a minor child. Three injured were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

A case was filed with Chandina police station in this connection.
