Curry, Chandler Help Bulls Gore Lakers

NEW YORK, 3 December 2004 — Eddy Curry registered 18 points and 10 rebounds and Tyson Chandler added 18 rebounds and 10 points as the Chicago Bulls stunned the Los Angeles Lakers 92-84 Wednesday.

Luol Deng also picked up 18 points for the host Bulls (2-10), who won for only the second time this season.

Chicago raced into a 45-40 lead at the half and took a six-point lead into the final quarter.

The Bulls had to survive a late flurry by the Lakers, with Deng and Ben Gordon scoring nine points apiece in the last period.

Kirk Hinrich contributed 17 points and seven assists while Gordon also had 17 points.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 28 points and 10 assists, Chucky Atkins adding 19 points. Caron Butler chipped in with 13 points for Los Angeles (9-7).

In Boston, Paul Pierce grabbed 23 points to steer the Celtics past the Milwaukee Bucks 101-100.

Mark Blount added 16 points and 16 rebounds while Raef LaFrentz had 14 points and seven rebounds. Michael Redd scored 23 points for the Bucks, who are 0-7 on the road this season.

In Washington, Gilbert Arenas captured a season-high 30 points as the Wizards crushed the New Jersey Nets 95-68.

Antawn Jamison had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Wizards and Larry Hughes 15 points and nine rebounds. Eric Williams recorded 17 points for the Nets (3-12).

In Orlando, Steve Francis scored 23 points as the Magic hammered the Toronto Raptors 129-108.

Grant Hill added 17 points for the Magic, who posted the highest number of points in the NBA this season. Vince Carter notched 21 points as the Raptors (7-10) suffered their worst loss of the campaign.

In New York, Stephon Marbury totaled 26 points, including five three-pointers in the second quarter, to help the Knicks overcome the Memphis Grizzlies 90-82.

Michael Sweetney added 11 points as the Knicks bagged their fifth victory in six games. Bonzi Wells led the way with 16 points for the Grizzlies, who have lost five in a row.

In New Orleans, Brad Miller had 24 points as the Sacramento Kings swept aside the Hornets 94-81.

Peja Stojakovic added 20 points and Bobby Jackson 19 for the Kings. David Wesley scored 18 points for the Hornets (1-13).

In San Antonio, Tim Duncan piled up 24 points and 12 rebounds to power the Spurs to a 105-72 rout of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Devin Brown also registered 24 points for the Spurs, who led 55-36 at the half. Marc Jackson’s haul of 18 points topped Philadelphia’s scorers.

In Phoenix, Amare Stoudemire, Steve Nash and Quentin Richardson notched 21 points apiece as the Suns kept rolling with a 120-101 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Suns have now won nine straight games. Joe Johnson had 18 points for Phoenix while LeBron James collected 15 for Cleveland.

In Los Angeles, Elton Brand picked up 23 points as the Clippers beat the Indiana Pacers 88-76.

Bobby Simmons added 20 points for the Clippers (10-6), winners of five straight.

In Seattle, Ray Allen amassed 38 points to carry the SuperSonics to a 129-119 victory over the Utah Jazz in overtime.

Carlos Boozer had 36 points for Utah.

In Oakland, Sam Cassell totaled 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists as the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Golden State Warriors 107-99.

Kevin Garnett added 17 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists for Minnesota.
