Riyadh Inter-School Quiz Contest a Big Success

RIYADH, 28 December 2004 — Forty-two Indian students participated in the inter-school quiz competition held at the International Indian School recently. The event was a big success.

The program was organized by the Muslim Educational Society (MES), an educational organization of expatriates from Kerala in cooperation with the International Indian School (IIS), Riyadh.

“The level of competition this time was very high with each team scoring very well,” said Mohamed Ashraf, a key organizer.

Niaz Ahmed Khan, president of the “higher board” for the International Indian Schools in the Kingdom said he would work toward providing the student community with more opportunities in co-curricular activities along with academic excellence.

Students from five prominent Indian schools in Riyadh took part in the competition. The finalists were selected from the preliminary rounds that were conducted earlier in each participating school. “Several hundred students took part in the final rounds from which 42 brilliant students were qualified for the finals” Ashraf said. The finalists had to go through four rounds of questions, which included subjects such as current affairs, sports, India, Saudi Arabia and general knowledge.

Dr. Fazal Ghafoor, a renowned neurologist and general secretary of MES, inaugurated the event by conducting a quiz session for the audience. Teachers from Yara International School were given the opportunity to anchor the show this time.

The following schools emerged winners in their respective categories:

Group 1 (Grades 5 to 7) — Winners: Vaishakhan P.R., Fathima Kasim and Fathima Shabnam (Yara School). Second Place: Salman Zahoor, Mohamed Fairooz and Imaad Mohamed Khan (International Indian School-Boys). Third Place: A.R. Zafar, Rakesh Retnakaran and Sajin Sunny (International Indian Public School)

Group 2 (Grades 8 to 10) — Winners: Geslin George, Huda and Taskeen Salim (International Indian School-Girls).

Second Place: Ruchi Sharma, Abinav Tharakal and Abdul Majid Muneer (International Indian Public school)

Third Place: K.K. Rajesh, Mohit Raina and Amala Sara Abraham (Middle East International School)

Group 3 (Grades 11 and 12) Winners: Tarun Chawla, Syed Aezaz Quryshi and Ameer Mohamed Asif Khan (International Indian School — Boys)

Second Place: Suha Salim, Sameera V.M and Maimoona Zafir (International Indian School — Girls). Third Place: Muzzammil Asif, Syed Mohamed Sajjad and Omar Khalil (Middle East International School)

The winners were awarded gold medals, trophies and certificates.
