ALKHOBAR, 13 February 2005 — The Filipino community in the Middle East and Europe will soon be able to enjoy homegrown programs from the Philippines with a new package from Orbit Satellite Television and Radio Network.

Pinoy Plus is set to debut on Feb. 14 with a free to air broadcast which will last for 15 days.

Pinoy Plus will directly compete with ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel, which has dominated the Filipino overseas cable for over a decade.

The Filipino Channel has been bitterly criticized by some of its viewers for its high subscription fees, poor content and lousy programming.

The new package, which will be available in the Middle East from next month, will consist of GMA7, featuring variety shows and news reports, Viva Pinoy Box Office — a movie channel, Viva Original Pinoy Music TV — featuring general entertainment and music, and Pinoy Prime Sports.

Along with the Filipino channels, the package will also come bundled with existing channels on Orbit such as MGM, Orbit-ESPN, Orbit News, Fashion TV, The Disney Channel, Animal Planet, The Cartoon Network, Music Now and Radio Orbit,.

Pinoy Plus is a project of the Nora Eastern Corporation and Viva with Orbit International as its carrier.
