TRIVANDRUM, 24 February 2005 — Dr. Sheikh Omar Abdallah Kamel, an Islamic scholar and vice chairman of Dallah Group of Companies in Saudi Arabia, arrived here yesterday on a weeklong visit.
Kamel will attend the 27th anniversary and 12th convocation of the Jamia Markazu-Ssakhafathi-Ssunniya headed by Islamic scholar Sheikh Aboobacker Ahmed at Karanthur in Kerala Friday. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Saeed, Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh and Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, besides federal and state ministers and leading scholars from the Arab world, will attend the three-day celebrations, Markaz officials said here. A large number of people accorded a warm reception to Kamel at the Calicut airport.
Kamel is also scheduled to deliver a lecture for Saturday. Sheikh Abdallah Farraj Shereef, Abdallah Al-Baithy (Yemen) and Sami Abdulla and Adnan Muhammad from Lebanon are accompanying him.
