TORONTO, 1 March 2005 — Jalen Rose scored 26 points, including eight straight in the latter stages of the fourth quarter, as the Toronto Raptors upset the Los Angeles Lakers 108-102 in National Basketball Association play on Sunday.
Rose scored 10 of the Raptors’ last 12 points as Toronto finished the game on a 12-3 run after earlier blowing a 15-point lead.
The win was the third straight for the Raptors, who are unbeaten since the All-Star break.
Recently, there had been speculation that both Rose and Donyell Marshall might be dealt by the Raptors, but the pair stayed in Toronto as Thursday’s trade deadline passed.
Marshall added 19 points and nine rebounds for the Raptors, who had 13 three-pointers in the game. Kobe Bryant scored 31 points, had eight rebounds and eight assists for the Lakers, who lost their second straight contest after a season-high three-game winning streak.
Los Angeles was coming off a 111-90 drubbing at the hands of the defending NBA champions Detroit Pistons on Friday.
Matt Bonner and Rafer Alston both added 14 points for the Raptors.
Chucky Atkins had 22 points for the Lakers.
In other games, Vince Carter had 34 points and 11 rebounds as the New Jersey Nets stopped the Cleveland Cavaliers 104-98 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Jason Kidd added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Nets, while Nenad Krstic added 15 points. LeBron James had 28 points to lead the Cavaliers. Jeff McInnis added 23 and Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 20 points and 18 rebounds.
In Milwaukee, Michael Redd scored 35 points as the Bucks pounded the Seattle SuperSonics 99-73. Desmond Mason added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Bucks, who held the Sonics to their lowest point total of the season.
Former Buck Ray Allen, in his first game in Milwaukee since being dealt to Seattle two seasons ago, had just 16 points.
In Houston, Matt Harpring scored 28 points as the Utah Jazz edged the Rockets 99-92. Raja Bell added 23 points for the Jazz, who out-scored Houston 30-23 in the fourth quarter.
Tracy McGrady had 23 points to lead Houston.
In Washington, Cuttino Mobley made two free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining to lead the Sacramento Kings past the Wizards 110-108.
Mike Bibby had 38 points for Sacramento. Gilbert Arenas scored 43 points for Washington, but his foul on Mobley led to the winning points.
In New Orleans, Carmelo Anthony had 31 points and 10 rebounds as the Denver Nuggets rallied to beat the Hornets 94-93.
Anthony scored 17 of his points in the fourth quarter as the Nuggets overcame an 11-point deficit in the final 10 minutes.
Dan Dickau led New Orleans with 22 points.
In Orlando, Dwyane Wade scored 28 points as the Miami Heat beat the Magic for the second straight day, 112-103.
Eddie Jones added 24 points for Miami, which was once again without the injured Shaquille O’Neal. Grant Hill led Orlando with 34 points.
In Portland, Latrell Sprewell scored 27 points as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Trail Blazers 91-83. Nick Van Exel had 26 points for the Blazers, who lost all four of their games to the T-Wolves this season.
In Phoenix, Antoine Walker had 33 points and 13 rebounds as the Boston Celtics downed the Suns 120-113 in overtime. Boston became the first Eastern Conference team to win in Phoenix this season.
Amare Stoudemire scored 27 points for the Suns before fouling out while Steve Nash missed his third straight game.
In Oakland, Tayshaun Prince had 23 points as the Detroit Pistons won their seventh straight game, 94-88 over the Golden State Warriors. Ben Wallace added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Detroit. James Richardson led Golden State with 25 points.
In Los Angeles, Corey Maggette scored 25 points as the Clippers beat the Atlanta Hawks 111-104. Bobby Simmons added 24 points for the Clippers. Tyronn Lue scored 24 points for Atlanta.
