LONDON: The emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, discussed regional and international developments with Syria’s president, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, on Wednesday.

Al-Sharaa expressed solidarity with Qatar amid the Iranian attacks that have targeted the country and other states in the region, as well as support for the steps taken by Doha to safeguard its sovereignty, security and citizens, the Qatar News Agency reported.

As they reviewed bilateral relations and joint strategies, both leaders emphasized a commitment to the enhancement of regional security and stability.

Their talks also also emphasized a desire to enhance cooperation in a number of areas, in particular economic and investment sectors, and improve trade connectivity, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.

Other officials present at the meeting in Doha included Qatar’s foreign minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, and Syria’s foreign minister, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani.

Al-Sharaa held talks in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman before traveling on Wednesday to Qatar and then later in the day to the UAE, where he was expected to meet the president, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
