RIYADH: Officials from the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority at Al-Haditha border crossing have foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge cache of captagon pills.
The authority, which seized the contraband, said on Friday: “ZATCA, in coordination with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, thwarted an attempt to smuggle over 154,000 amphetamine (captagon) pills concealed within a shipment of tents arriving in the Kingdom.”
ZATCA’s spokesperson Hamoud Al-Harbi said that the seizure was made possible through the use of advanced security technologies and inspection equipment.
ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control following the discovery, leading to the arrest of five individuals intended to receive the shipment in the Kingdom, he added.
Al-Harbi reaffirmed ZATCA’s commitment to tightening customs control over the Kingdom’s imports and exports, confronting smuggling attempts, and protecting society from the smuggling of the contraband.
This is in line with the most prominent pillar of ZATCA’s strategy, which is to enhance the security and protection of society by limiting attempts to smuggle such contraband and other prohibited items.
Al-Harbi urged citizens and residents to contribute to combating smuggling and protecting society and the national economy by reporting to the dedicated security number (1910), emailing ([email protected]), or dialing the international number (009661910). All reports are handled with complete confidentiality and may result in a financial reward if the information is accurate.
