LONDON: Authorities in Israel said on Thursday that they would release a Palestinian man who was seriously wounded by Israeli forces more than two weeks ago.
Qusai Rayyan, 29, was shot during an Israeli raid in Salfit Governorate in the northwestern West Bank on April 15. The Palestinian Ministry of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees Affairs said he has undergone several surgeries at Beilinson Hospital in northern Israel but remains unconscious and his health has continued to deteriorate, the Palestinian Wafa news agency reported.
At least 40 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli settlers or soldiers in the occupied West Bank since January, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
Israel forces conduct daily and nightly raids in the West Bank, citing security concerns, during which they arrest or search the homes of individuals allegedly involved in political or militant activism.
Security forces continue to hold the bodies of dozens of Palestinians killed during such raids since October 2023. The number of detainees who have died in Israeli custody has surpassed 100 during the same period. Of those, only 84 have been publicly named, including 50 detainees from Gaza.
