Heritage Commission penalizes 11 for unlicensed trade in portable antiquities

Riyadh: The Heritage Commission has fined 11 people for dealing in portable antiquities without the required licenses, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.

The move was part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to protect the Kingdom’s cultural heritage and strengthen compliance with sector regulations, the report stated.

The commission said the violations involved displaying and selling antiquities on online platforms without registration, documentation, or the necessary licenses, in clear breach of the Law of Antiquities, Museums and Urban Heritage.

Fines varied based on the nature and circumstances of each violation, reaching up to SR15,000 ($4,000) in some cases, the SPA said.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring violations related to heritage sites and collections across the Kingdom and taking legal action against offenders.

It urged citizens and residents to report violations or non-compliant practices through its social media channels, by visiting its branches, via the Archeological Site Reporting platform, or by contacting the unified security operations center at 911.
