HYDERABAD, 29 March 2005 — Amid unprecedented security, Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri, a life convict who is accused of masterminding the killing of Telugu Desam legislator Paritala Ravi from the central jail here, was produced in a district court in Anantapur town yesterday morning.
The first class judicial magistrate remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days. The CBI, which is investigating the murder case and arrested a dozen accused already, had sought Suri’s custody for at least five days for interrogating him in connection with Ravi’s murder.
For the present, Suri would be lodged in the Anantapur district sub-jail.
Suri, who is serving life imprisonment at Cherlapalli central jail in Hyderabad, was shifted to Anantapur town on Sunday night amidst tight security.
He was taken in a strongly barred mini-bus and escorted by 40 armed policemen in three jeeps and a van. As the convoy zoomed on the National Highway 7 to Anantapur, the police in five districts secured culverts along the 420 km route and stood guard to ensure safe passage.
