Al Kuhaimi Metals, WMOW-Tauhid Triumph: Lucky Me! Supreme Cup

ALKHOBAR, 30 March 2005 — Al Kuhaimi Metals dumped Montajat Pharmaceuticals 76-47 while Western Mindanao Overseas Workers-Tauhid defeated Seattle’s Best/Cinnabon 81-63 in the 1st UFBF -2nd Lucky Me! Supreme Cup at the Al-Qadisiya Sports Club here.

Gary Manapat shot 23 points in bagging the Lucky Me! Best Player of the match, while teammates Sonny Bautista and Igme Villegas chipped in with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Montajat’s Jun Lura sprayed 24 big points and was responsible for his team’s high morale in the first quarter but then faded in the next quarter when Kuhaimi paraded leaned on their backcourt talent to come out victorious.

With Al Kuhaimi’s solid and furious attack all throughout only Lura scored in double digits for Montajat.

The tournament is sponsored by Monde Nissin Philippines/Trading Est. of Al Bahar, sole distributor of Lucky Me noodles in the Kingdom, Samba-Speedcash, and Al Yusr Installment-Autostar . Tauhid’s Sadjip Jauhali scored a game-high 24 points emerge Autostar Star Player of the Match, while teammas Franklin Ong and Ahmed Al Hamji contributed 14 and 11 points respectively.

The favored Seattle’s Best five tried to apply pressure against Tauhid with the seasoned trio of Melvin Uy, Eddie Saavedra and Louie Guevara joining hands for a combined output of 46 points.

But Tauhid’s five proved to be unstoppable as they dictated the tempo of the match to snatch the victory.

In the premier league, V-Kool X-Press smashed Calson Forwarders 105-93.

Ex-PBL LBC/Batangas standout Allan De Castro carried his squad with a game high 24 points while, Louie Dela Cruz and Albert Arenoy had 21 and 17 points.

Calson Forwarders took control in the first three quarters and had the chance to break the defensive and offensive walls of their opponents but fell short when defense specialist Arthur Palima and all star Rolly Bisda fouled out in succession at crunch time.

Mon Hernandez top scored for Calson with 24 points, while Jun Reyes and Palima added 20 and 11 points.

In Division C, Jotun Powder suffered a 87-95 loss to Pinoy Plus.

Jupiter Paragele and Yboy Navarro shared limelight as they both scored a game high 21 points for Pinoy Plus while teammates Jojo Raymundo and Jun Bolotaolo added 16 and 15 points respectively.

Joining the week’s winners were Sara Corporations, MMG-Dewalt and ACEC Consultants who beat Wild Cats 87-52, The Gallery 68-47 and IPA-Dammam Knights 97-91 in that order.
