ISLAMABAD: Chinese agricultural technology company FAMSUN plans to help modernize Pakistan’s grain storage infrastructure through technology transfer, workforce training and the establishment of a demonstration center for green silos, according to an official statement after the company’s executives met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday.
The proposed collaboration comes as Pakistan seeks to modernize its agriculture sector with Chinese support to improve food security, reduce post-harvest losses and boost productivity. The two countries have expanded agricultural cooperation in recent years, including a government initiative to train 1,000 Pakistani agricultural professionals in China and encourage Chinese investment in Pakistan’s agri-food sector.
“Business-to-business partnerships between the two countries will further strengthen the Pakistan-China friendship,” Sharif said during the meeting, according to a statement issued by his office.
The prime minister welcomed the company’s proposal to upgrade Pakistan’s grain storage facilities into state-of-the-art centers, saying the project would introduce advanced agricultural technology and support commercial activity. He also directed that training and skills development for Pakistan’s workforce be incorporated into the initiative.
FAMSUN Chief Executive Officer Jack Chen said the company was interested in supporting Pakistan’s food security through improved storage infrastructure, technology transfer and technical training, according to the statement.
Officials briefing the meeting said FAMSUN plans to establish a demonstration center for green silos, which use advanced technology to improve grain storage and reduce post-harvest losses, and upgrade conventional grain storage facilities into modern storage systems.
Chen said his visit followed discussions with Sharif during the prime minister’s recent trip to China, where the two sides discussed practical cooperation on food security.
FAMSUN is among China’s leading suppliers of equipment and engineering solutions for agriculture, animal feed and food processing. The company has operated in Pakistan for more than two decades and has participated in projects involving feed milling, grain handling and food processing.
