TAIF, 18 April 2005 — A number of candidates expressed their sorrow at the way most voters view the Saudi Arabia’s landmark municipal elections, Al-Madinah reported. A candidate in this week’s elections received a phone call from a voter asking him if he was willing to buy his vote for a certain price. The caller even offered him a discount if he was ready to buy the votes of his friends as well. Another candidate received a more weird phone call from someone asking him to buy him some rice and chicken. The caller was serious about his request saying that the candidates are responsible for the municipality and restaurants fall under the purview of the municipality and therefore, delivery of food was one of their main jobs.
