Fraudster Swindles Bank Customers With Novel Scam

JEDDAH, 2 May 2005 — An inventive thief tricked a Jeddah bank’s customers into revealing their credit card numbers, passwords and bank accounts yesterday by claiming to be one of the bank’s employees updating the system. One of the bank’s employees who preferred not to named said that the con man managed to steal the credit card numbers and accounts from the owners themselves. He added that this robber had stolen around SR50,000 from one of their customers alone. Since then the bank has received frantic calls from customers double checking after the con artist had called them. “We believe that he called many of our clients,” he said.
