DOHA, 19 May 2005 — Georgetown University’s Qatar campus is looking for talented students to join the university’s first undergraduate class, which is expected to begin in August.

The university’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service will be hosting an admissions event at the Diplomatic Club in Doha at 6 p.m. on May 25, according to Dr. Jim Reardon-Anderson, the first dean of the campus in the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.

Along with officials from the Qatar Foundation, he will also tour regional capitals over the coming weeks and visiting leading secondary schools in search of potential students.

The Qatar Foundation and Georgetown University signed an agreement in New York on May 17, under which the university’s renowned Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service will offer its undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree, with a major in international politics to about 25 students per year. The program will expand to include at least 100 students over four years.

“Bringing the School of Foreign Service to Qatar and the region of the Middle East is a great adventure for all of us at Georgetown University,” said Dr. Reardon-Anderson. “It’s a chance not only to teach what we know, but also to learn what we don’t know about one of the world’s great civilizations.”

Before becoming dean of the university’s campus in Qatar, Dr. Reardon-Anderson served as director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service program at Georgetown University. He has also served in senior academic administrative positions at Stanford University, Columbia University, and the US National Academy of Sciences and has taught for 30 years at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
