JEDDAH, 29 May 2005 — A total of 3,081 expatriate students have been registered for admission at government schools this year, according to Ali Muhammad Humaid, head of the student services department at the Education Department.
He said Yemenis accounted for the largest number among those registered with 1,528 students, followed by Palestinians, 296, Sudanese, 256, Egyptians, 243, Pakistanis, 83, Afghans, 49 and Bangladeshis, 31. Indians were the lowest with only 5 students.
He said the authorities would give expatriates another chance on Aug. 20 to register their children for admission at government schools.
Humaid said those who have already registered could find out through the department’s website the names of schools where their children have got seats. Parents have been asked to give their first, second and third choices of school in the registration form.
Authorities have allocated 15 percent of the seats in primary schools, and 10 percent each in intermediate and secondary schools for foreign students.
