CAIRO, 30 May 2005 — Emirates Airlines kicked off its daily flights to Alexandria, its 79th destination on the network, to slash transit time and the load at the Cairo International Airport. Despite the risk of having scheduled flights to other destinations than Cairo, Emirates is confident that their new alternative route will prove to be successful. “We did our study and found out that there is a substantial market to operate a daily flight to Alexandria ... because we feel that Alexandria will serve not only the Alexandria market but all the smaller cities between Cairo and Alexandria,” said Ghaith Al-Ghaith, Emirates’ executive vice president. Air Arabia, Sharjah government-owned airline, said it added three new routes in Egypt. Air Arabia is currently flying from Sharjah to Alexandria five days a week and Assiut, Luxor and Sharam El- Sheikh two days a week.
