Bride Comes to Groom’s Aid to Fulfill Dowry Condition

MADINAH, 26 July 2005 — A young groom asking for his bride’s hand in marriage from her family was surprised when he heard the condition of the marriage. Thinking that they might ask for large dowry, he was shocked when the family asked the young groom to register their 70 percent high school graduate daughter in a college as the condition, Al-Watan newspaper reported. He considered the condition very carefully because students with these grades cannot find place in colleges. He used his connections to attempt registration but every time he was turned down. After all his attempts failed, the bride told him that she would not consider studying after high school and the marriage ceremony went ahead.
