RIYADH, 15 August 2005 — The Delhi Public School, Riyadh, (DPS-Riyadh) is one of the best-equipped schools in the Middle East with world-class facilities that support excellence in all areas. “The vision of DPS-Riyadh extends beyond the narrow walls of the classrooms and textbooks as it intends to give the students of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf a truly global perspective by providing international level schooling facilities,” said Dr. Ibrahim H. Al-Qauayid, chairman of the DPS Board of Directors, here.

“The school professes its students not only to describe the world around them, but also to prescribe the best ways to live and compete at the global level,” said Dr. Ibrahim, while speaking on the occasion of India’s Independence Day. Nadeem Tarin, chairman of DPS managing committee was also present. Dr. Ibrahim and Tarin, in a joint statement released on this occasion, also congratulated students, teachers and parents, who have contributed to make this school an ideal institution.

Referring to the future plans of the DPS management, which always strives to provide better education, Dr. Ibrahim said: “The school seeks to provide the best education and raise student’s awareness of national and international affairs. We welcome men of letters from all over the world to visit our school and interact with the students and faculty members.” On all fronts, he said, the DPS Riyadh, which started its modest operation in April 2004 under a franchise agreement with the Delhi Public School Society, has made its name.

“Not only this, DPS-Riyadh has come to be recognized throughout the Kingdom as a brand known for its progressive approach and commitment to excellence through well designed instructional program and flexible and unique school management systems,” said Tarin. The school, as part of its long-term plan, will prepare students for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) of India or later facilitating them to the option of simultaneously appearing for the British and/or the American schools certificate examinations.

“We are more focused on our promises and commitment,” said Tarin adding that the DPS-Riyadh enrolls only 20 pupils in a class to ensure that a teacher pays personal attention on every student. The school, he said, had well-trained staff recruited from India, a spacious campus and huge playgrounds, counseling facilities for parents and students besides separate sections for boys & girls and above all an affordable and reasonable fee structure. These are the distinguishing features of all DPS schools, which function under the aegis of a regulatory body called DPS Society, which is based in Delhi.

The DPS Society has been operating over 125 schools across the world including India. These schools have been sending highest number of students to IIT/REC/AIIMS/GRE. Their emphasis is on quality education, embodying a high standard of ethical and moral values. The overall aim is to produce citizens’ conscious of their responsibilities, while learning holistic and value-based educational lessons to realize their dreams. The DPS schools also seeks to develop positive attitudes, life skills and academic excellence relevant to the time.

Referring to the academic and sports facilities at DPS-Riyadh, Tarin said that the sports and extra-curricular activities are part of the school curricula. The DPS- Riyadh, currently runs classes upto Grade 8. But, it would follow a pattern of fifteen years of schooling, starting with one year of pre-nursery (at the age of 3 plus); followed by one year of preparatory class (or prep.); and finally a total of 12 years of secondary and senior secondary classes based on the 10+2 pattern of education.

At the end of 10 years the students will appear for the All-India Secondary School Examination [AISSE, Grade X], which is followed by the All-India Senior School Certificate Examination [AISSCE, Grade XII], both of which are conducted by the CBSE. DPS-Riyadh is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) of India. The faculty of DPS comprises highly qualified teachers with extensive teaching experience. The school’s board of directors is headed by an eminent career educationist and professional trainer.

Its managing committee is composed of prominent members and philanthropist of the community, who seek to build a schooling system unique by itself to the needs of the children from the Gulf.
