JEDDAH, 16 August 2005 — Applications for women’s business offices in the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) building have increased since last week. Three businesswomen have already been accepted in the building and are scheduled to start their businesses next week, said JCCI officials.

Applications have been increasing since Ziad Bassam Al-Bassam, member of JCCI administration committee, announced last Monday the beginning of accepting applications. Al-Bassam said, “It is the fruit of cooperation between the Jeddah Small Establishments Development Center and the Sayedah Khadija Bint Khwaled Center in order to support businesswomen.”

He added that it aimed to provide a healthy working climate for new businesses and supporting the skills and creativity of businesswomen in Jeddah in order to provide strong projects for the community in the near future that will be able to continue and develop and to achieve economic development.

According to Muna Khamess from Sayedah Khadija Center said that three businesswomen had already been accepted, one in real state and another in event planning and organization. Applications for all kinds of businesses are accepted and then looked into by a committee from JCCI which decides on what to accept. The businesswomen are then offered a workplace in the JCCI-owned building, she added.

Twenty women will be selected, and the businesswomen who have already been selected will begin business by next Saturday. They have been provided with information, Internet access in the workplace and are being helped to launch their businesses successfully.
