NEW DELHI, 27 August 2005 — The Hussain Ganj police in Siwan yesterday registered cases under arms act against Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament from Siwan, Shahabuddin, his wife, father and brother for not surrendering their firearms despite cancellation of their licenses and direction to deposit the weapons.
Siwan District Magistrate S.K. Mal had on Thursday ordered officer-in-charge of Hussain Ganj police station Ranvijay Singh to take action against Shahabuddin, his wife Heena Shahab, father S.N. Hasibullah and brother S.M. Samsuddin under relevant sections of the Arms Act, 1960.
Siwan DM’s order noted that despite his predecessor C.K. Anil canceling the licenses of the firearms of Shahabuddin and his family and an April 6 instruction to deposit them, the weapons were not surrendered in violation of Section 25 of the Arms Act. Taking strong note of non-compliance of the order, the DM instructed the Hussain Ganj officer-in-charge to take action against them under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
While a rifle and a DBBL gun are in the name of Shahabuddin, his wife also has licenses for a DBBL gun, rifle and a pistol. Arms in the name of Shahabuddin’s father include a DBBL gun, a rifle and a revolver, while his brother S.M. Samsuddin owns a rifle and a DBBL gun. The DM’s order said though the notice of cancellation of licenses and notice to deposit the arms were served to Shahabuddin and his family members, except for a DBBL gun in the name of Heena Shahab which was deposited with the Indian gun factory on Feb. 10 this year, no other weapon belonging to the named persons has been deposited.
Meanwhile, a team of Siwan police reached Delhi for execution of non-bailable warrants (NBW) of arrest against Shahabuddin, police said yesterday.
Siwan Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Singh said the team was dispatched to arrest Shahabuddin as the MP was said to be present in the national capital. Singh, however, refused to set any timeframe for the arrest of the MP and said “we are making all efforts (for the arrest)”.
