RIYADH, 13 September 2005 — The Saudi Research & Publishing Company (SRPC) gave away the prizes to the winners in the summer Arab News subscription campaign 2005 at the company’s headquarters here on Sunday. Abdul Ghafour M. Ramly of Dammam won the first prize — a new Hyundai Getz from Wallan Aviation. Editor in Chief Khaled Almaeena presented the prize to Ramly.

Yasser Al-Ghaslan, director of media services at SRPC, presented a check for SR15,000 to the second prize winner, Adnan Abdul Rahman Al-Eid, also from Dammam, and SRPC Deputy Managing Director Tariq Al-Gain presented the third prize of SR10,000 to Francis Joseph.

Three others won SR5,000 each. Mirza Afsar Ali of Riyadh received his check from Dr. Fahad Al-Saeed, managing director of Saudi Distribution Company, while Aslam Sher Khan received his check from Arab News staffer Mahmoud Ahmed in Jeddah. Romeo Navidad in the Eastern Province had claimed his check earlier.

Speaking on the occasion, Almaeena expressed his thanks and appreciation to the SRPC management as well as to the readers, especially subscribers, who have patronized Arab News for many years.

“I appreciate all those who have participated in the campaign and I hope they will continue to do so. Arab News is not just a paper; it has built a bridge of understanding between people of different nationalities and cultures,” he said. He also thanked Wallan Aviation for “having been supportive of Arab News for many years.”

Al-Gain expressed his appreciation to all those who took part in the campaign and hoped that they would continue to support Arab News. Ramly, an employee of Sri Lankan Airlines, expressed his surprise for having won the grand prize. “It’s the first time I have ever won anything in my life,” he commented.
