NEW DELHI, 27 November 2005 — The Bharatiya Janata Party yesterday decided to replace Babulal Gaur as Madhya Pradesh chief minister with Shivraj Singh Chauhan, chief of its state party unit. Former Chief Minister Uma Bharati, who was eyeing the job, was appointed party general secretary.

“The central parliamentary board has decided that Shivraj Singh Chauhan will be the new chief minister of Madhya Pradesh,” BJP spokesman Arun Jaitley told reporters here.

Gaur sent in his resignation to Madhya Pradesh Gov. Balram Jhakar soon after Jaitley’s announcement.
