RIYADH, 13 December 2005 — Border guards have arrested two Saudis — one a former prison employee and another a teacher — who were trying to cross the border into Iraq, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior said yesterday.
“The arrest took place on Friday after security officers at Shiba sector noticed a car which crossed the border into Iraq,” the spokesman said. “The border guards informed the Iraqi authorities and the Iraqis stopped the car which was carrying two Saudis.”
The spokesman went on, “Documents carried by the two Saudis showed that one of them was working in the prisons department and was suffering from psychological problems which led to him resigning from his job. The other Saudi works as a teacher.”
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the Iraqi authorities did not say whether the two Saudis were carrying weapons, and the concerned authorities are investigating the matter.
