BALTIMORE, Maryland, 21 December 2005 — Kyle Boller completed 19-of-27 passes for 253 yards and three touchdowns on Monday as the Baltimore Ravens routed the Green Bay Packers 48-3.
A first-round pick in 2003, Boller had struggled with injuries and turnovers in his first three campaigns. He missed seven games this season with an injured toe and threw nine interceptions against just five touchdowns when he was on the field. But facing the NFL’s top passing defense, Boller was nearly flawless as he led the Ravens to their highest scoring output in the franchise’s 10-year history. While Boller had perhaps the best game of his young career, Brett Favre endured one of the worst of his legendary tenure with Green Bay.
The future Hall of Famer was 14-of-29 for 144 yards and two interceptions before giving way to rookie Aaron Rodgers in the fourth quarter. BJ Sams gave Baltimore good field position for its first possession, returning a punt 49 yards to the 18. Five plays later, Boller found Heap in the back of the end zone for a 7-0 lead less than four minutes into the game.
Rookie wide receiver Mark Clayton added an 11-yard TD rush on the Ravens’ next possession and Boller, who was 14-of-18 in the first half, threw a 13-yard scoring pass to Randy Hymes as the Ravens built a 24-3 lead after two quarters. Heap had nine receptions for 110 yards and Jamal Lewis contributed 105 yards and a score on 22 carries. With 2,841 career-receiving yards, Heap passed Qadry Ismail for the all-time team lead. The Packers struggled to move the ball without running back Samkon Gado, who suffered a right knee injury with 1:23 left in the first quarter and ended up with their worst loss since 1980.
