‘I Can Drive My Own Car, Thank You Very Much’

TABUK, 22 January 2006 — A Saudi was surprised to know that he had a private driver under his sponsorship though he claimed that he never applied for a driver’s visa, Al-Madinah newspaper reported. The man, who is in his 50s, received a call from a service office telling him to come and receive the Indian driver he had applied for. “I have never applied for any foreign worker,” the man said. Maj. Gen. Salem Al-Zahrani, head of Directorate General of Passports in Tabuk, said they would start an investigation to prove the authentication of the Indian driver’s applications and official paper. Zahrani said they would punish whoever is responsible for such a mistake whether it is the labor recruitment office or the public service office.
