JEDDAH, 7 November 2006 — People in Jeddah were left astonished after discovering that the three wives of a man who had four wives had dedicated their time to caring and looking after their husband’s first wife, who had recently been diagnosed with cancer, the Al-Madinah newspaper reported yesterday. The second wife explained how household chores had been divided among the wives. She said that she would assist the sick wife in going to the bathroom, that the third wife would take care of cooking food and that the fourth wife would care for the first wife’s children. The wives said that the first wife was of a kind temperament and welcomed and took care of each of them when they got married. They added that it was this that had now driven them to look after her in her hour of need.
