JEDDAH, 28 February 2006 — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah yesterday commended the efforts of security forces and their devotion in serving their religion, country and people. At the weekly Cabinet meeting, the king mentioned Friday’s Abqaiq attack and appreciated the country’s strong stand and unity between the government and the people in facing terrorism.
Abdullah paid homage to the two guards killed in the attack, saying he prayed to God to shower them with His mercy.
The Cabinet condemned the escalating violence in Iraq and urged all Iraqis to stand in solidarity against all efforts to disrupt the country’s unity.
Abdul Aziz Al-Ashaikh, the Kingdom’s grand mufti, also condemned the actions of the terrorists in their attempt to disrupt the country’s oil operations. He said this act showed the ugly face of the criminals who are hiding behind religion.
“We are saddened by the terrorist activity in Abqaiq. I praise the police role in dealing with the terrorists and foiling their attack. I would like to direct my speech to all Muslims and repeat the statement that was issued by the Ulema Committee Council in Saudi Arabia to condemn the acts by the deviant groups, and to stress that their action is against Islam. Those who harbor them and give them assistance commit a greater sin.”
