JEDDAH, 29 March 2006 — Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, yesterday emphasized the need for upgrading military service laws in order to improve the military’s standard as well as productivity of its men.
Prince Sultan made this comment while presiding over a meeting of the Military Service Council in Riyadh, which was attended by Prince Badr, deputy commander of the National Guard, Prince Naif, the interior minister, and Prince Muqrin, chief of intelligence.
Lt. Gen. Nasser Al-Arfaj, secretary-general of the council, said the issue of recruiting graduates of educational institutions has been presented to the Council of Ministers. “Another issue, relating to payment of full daily wages to military officers of the Interior Ministry, has been passed to the Shoura Council,” he said.
The meeting discussed changes into some articles of the military service law, including compensation for leaves and payment of two-month salary as relocation allowance for officers sent to a different place for a period exceeding three months and admission conditions at military colleges, the Saudi Press Agency said.
