JEDDAH, 9 April 2006 — Police detained three people, two Saudis and an Asian, for allegedly stealing a safe containing a huge sum of money and vital documents from a company where they worked, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday. One of the Saudis worked as a security guard at the company in Dammam.

Prompted by the suspicious behavior of the threesome on the Abu Hedria road in Saihat, Qatif Region, in the wee hours Tuesday night, a policeman followed them and discovered in their car a safe, a bunch of keys and a heavy hammer. As the policeman could not get any satisfactory explanation for their behavior, he handed them over to Saihat police for interrogation, which revealed that the safe belonged to the company where they worked.

The suspects had planned to implement the burglary in two stages. First take the heavy box outside the company premises and then keep it at a place away from suspicious eyes. Some forged key they hoped would open the safe didn’t work, so they decided on plan B: to take the safe to a place where the loud, banging noises of prying open a safe wouldn’t attract attention. They were apprehended en route to an abandoned farmhouse.
