JEDDAH, 15 April 2006 — Failing stock portfolios can induce failing hearts. Apparently this has not been an isolated incident. It has been reported before that people have died of heart attacks after watching their retirement plans evaporate on the computer screen.
Once again, last Wednesday, somebody succumbed to the plunge in the stock market. (Last week the local stock market lost over 10 percent of its value.)
Abu Muhammad, an English-language teacher in Dammam, collapsed in the trading hall of a bank after seeing his share prices tumble. He was pronounced dead when his body reached the nearest hospital.
