KARACHI, 16 April 2006 — Bomb-shattered port city of Karachi started creeping back to normal life yesterday, however, tension still prevailed in some parts of the city. The city was witnessing a total shutdown for last three days in the wake of Nishtar Park blasts on Tuesday which killed 57 people and injured 100 others.

The city cautiously rolled back to normal yesterday morning, as traffic on the roads kicked off and people commuted to their offices and business places as usual, vegetable market restored their normal trading, petrol pumps, shopping complexes and other shops also opened yesterday.

Educational institutions also reopened after three days, but the government institutions alone went into session yesterday, as private schools usually observe holidays on Saturday and Sunday. They will now resume their normal functions from tomorrow.

Despite normalcy restored to most parts of the city, some areas still remained tensed. Some unknown persons opened fire yesterday at Ranchor Line area. A bus was also set ablaze by mourners. Another group of people set on fire one more vehicle at M.A. Jinnah Road.
