RIYADH, 17 May 2006 — The National Company for Cooperative Insurance (NCCI) has launched a new scheme under which travelers from the Kingdom could take out an international travel insurance policy with coverage of up to SR5 million. More than 2.7 million people are expected to benefit from the scheme.
“This insurance policy is gaining attention, considering the fact that European embassies insist on an insurance policy from visa applicants,” NCCI marketing and sales manager Ahmed Al-Shalan told Arab News.
He said the plan, besides other services, covers medical emergencies and liabilities during travels abroad. The policy is among the services provided for Saudis and non-Saudis. “Our goal is to provide travelers with peace of mind at reasonable prices; it is inexpensive considering the coverage limits available,” Al-Shalan said.
The policy provides protection against personal accidents with a maximum limit of SR100,000 and emergency medical expenses up to SR3 million. The policy also compensates for civil liabilities of a traveler to a third party that result from a fatal accident.
Al-Shalan said insurance premiums start from SR115 for a five-day trip to any country except the US and Canada. It starts at SR175 for those two countries. The premium rises up to a maximum of SR290 for 31 days and SR525 for annual insurance. NCCI will give special discounts for families and children traveling with an insured adult. Children under two years are insured for free.
