RIYADH, 17 May 2006 — Bangladesh will hold a single country trade fair and a seminar on investment in Riyadh from May 24 to 28.

A 65- member trade delegation from the Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce is expected to participate in these two events. To mark the event, an open essay competition will also be held among the Bangladeshi students in all parts of the world.

The fair is being organized by the mission in Riyadh in association with the Bangladesh Businessmen Community (BBC), a body formed in 1995 in Riyadh to promote its country’s products in the Kingdom.

“The purpose of the single country fair is to attract investment to Bangladesh and also to introduce more Bangladesh products to the Kingdom, “Shah Alam Bakshi; Commercial Counselor of the Bangladesh Embassy said, adding that the large concentration of Bangladesh workers in the Kingdom demands more Bangladesh products for their local consumption in the Kingdom . Some 1.4 million Bangladesh expatriates are living in the Kingdom which is the largest concentration in the Middle East.

“More than 26 companies have already consented to be exhibitors at the show which is going to take place after a lapse of eight years in Riyadh,” he said. Since its inception, BBC held similar fairs in 1996 and 1998 in Riyadh. Participants of the show will include leading banks such as Sonali, Islami, Janata and Agrani banks . The show will display a wide range of garments, leather products, ceramics, melamine wares, tea, pharmaceutical products, jute and jute products and services such as insurance and selling, leasing and renting real estates in Bangladesh.
