JEDDAH, 28 June 2006 — An atmosphere of excitement prevailed at Pakistan International School-English Section (PIS-ES) last night as scores of students from year 3 to 13 received their trophies, awards and prizes from Pakistan Consul General Masood Akhtar at its annual awards and graduation ceremony.
Looking at the records established by some of the toppers in various subjects, the consul general expressed his delight and happiness. “I feel happy at the achievements of the students,” he said and congratulated them and their teachers for setting new records of academic excellence.
“The school, which is in its 11th year of operation, has become a pride of the nation,” the consul general said referring to the toppers and their overall achievements. The consul general was accompanied by Consul (Welfare) Shaukat Ali and Consul (Visa) Shaukat Munir Kiyani.
Syeda Mehrunnisa of Y11, who received accolades for topping in 10 subjects, said her joy knew no bounds. “I never expected the ‘outstanding student’ award that I received. The credit goes to my parents and teachers for encouraging me to do better,” she told Arab News. “I’m interested in medicine or bio medical engineering for my higher studies.”
Faran Bukhari, also of Y11 who won seven awards, said his outstanding performance in economics, math and IT was encouraging enough for him to go for studies in chartered accountancy. Other award winners included ‘Student of the year’ Anam Kamran of Y13.
Copies of the school’s inaugural ‘Cric On’ magazine devoted to cricket were presented to all graduating ‘A’ level students. Skits from Shakespeare’s play “Macbeth” and a presentation on the massive earthquake that shook parts of Pakistan last year were among the highlights of the event.
Under the school’s expansion plan, a new state-of-the-art block consisting of 16 classrooms, an IT lab equipped with 35 computers, two separate reference libraries and academic resource centers, and nursery classrooms were constructed. “A new section of reception classes has been added to accommodate wait-listed students,” Principal Esar Hussain Shah said.
The school has been awarded the affiliated membership of the Cambridge International Primary Program (CIPM) by the University of Cambridge. “Ours is the first international school in the Kingdom to qualify as an approved attached member of the CIPM,” said Saher Kamran, director finance and administration.
