ISLAMABAD, 13 September 2006 — At least 13 tribesmen were killed in clashes between two groups in Khyber Agency. Members of Lashkar-e-Islami and Lashar-e-Ansar fought pitched battles using heavy weapons.
According to Ayub Afridi, a garment dealer in Karkhano Market, two groups used machine-guns and mortars against each other. He said authorities were trying to broker a cease-fire but had failed so far. He said a grand assembly of tribal leaders should be convened to resolve this dispute. Afridi has ruled out any Taleban role in the tribal fighting.
In a separate incident, two bombs went off in the city of Bannu near Waziristan destroying two video shops. Local authorities have blamed Taleban for the blasts.
