CAIRO, 29 September 2006 — Despite director Sharif Sabri emphatically denying any problems between him and close associate, singer Ruby, various recent incidents prove that their relationship is on the rocks, the Al-Hayat newspaper reported yesterday.
Ruby’s latest album has been ready for launch for several months now but Sabri continues to postpone the release. At first he claimed the delay was because he was busy with a promotional campaign of another singer. Then the war broke out in Lebanon and out of solidarity, the entertainment industry was told to postpone all events.
Now he hopes the album will be launched for Eid Al-Fitr. Ruby refused to comment on the reasons for the postponement of the album’s launch.
Sabri’s apparent lack of interest in starting work on a film in which Ruby is cast as lead actress, was yet another sign of their deteriorating relationship. Sabri was to write the screenplay for the film, which was scheduled for production this year.
In the meantime Sabri announced that he would direct another film in which Ruby has no role.
The downward trend in their relations was also conspicuous at a recent dinner hosted by Alexandrian businesswoman, Tato. Sabri was asleep while Ruby was singing and dancing. He woke up only after her performances were over.
The matter becomes more intriguing as there were rumors some time ago that Sabri and Ruby planned to get married. There was also the issue of the publication of her nude photo, and again fingers were pointed at Sabri.
