RIYADH, 12 November 2006 — A two-day Indian textiles road show will begin in Riyadh today as part of India’s drive to increase market penetration in the Kingdom, where its textile export industry has fallen from $360 million last year to $340 million this year.

This was announced at a press conference by Srijib Roy, the joint director of Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC). Rajeev Shahare, the deputy chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy, Azar Khan, the commercial counselor, and members of the textile delegation were also present.

Earlier, Shahare also disclosed that Minister of Health Dr. Hamad Al-Manie will be leading a high-level Saudi delegation to India on a three day visit on Nov. 20 for the recruitment of doctors, nurses and for holding talks with representatives of the pharmaceutical industry.

“The landmark visit of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has lent a new momentum to our bilateral relations leading to a greater exchange of visits between the two sides,” Shahare said.

He pointed out that Minister of Higher Education Dr. Khaled Al-Angari was currently in New Delhi holding talks with India’s Minister of Human Resources Development Arjun Singh. Besides, he also visited Bangalore and Hyderabad, India’s premier IT centers. Both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) paving the way for Saudi students to pursue higher education in India.

Referring to the textile exhibition at the Riyadh Palace Hotel today and tomorrow, Roy said 22 leading textile firms will hold buyer-seller meetings with Saudi businessmen.
