RIYADH, 4 February 2007 — Britain donated SR1.6 million for community services program in the Kingdom yesterday.
British Ambassador Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles and Muhammad Jameel, president of ALJ Community Services Programs, signed the agreement at a ceremony attended by British Consul-General in Jeddah Gerard Russell.
Abdul Latif Jameel Foundation will carry out community service-oriented projects in the Kingdom with the donation given by the United Kingdom.
The project was financed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Global Opportunities Fund (GOF). The GOF is the FCO’s largest program fund. Money from GOF is used to support projects which contribute to the UK’s international strategic priorities. Since 2004, the British Embassy and Consulate-General have used GOF funding for project work in areas as diverse as women’s development.
