JEDDAH, 24 February 2007 — A young Pakistani has been arrested by Jeddah police for eloping with the 37-year-old Indonesian wife of a compatriot living in the city.

On Feb. 13 Arab News reported how Latifa Omar Dasuqi left her 53-year-old Pakistani husband, Hasan Kosh, and eloped with her lover Rasheed, a relative of her husband’s.

Dasuqi also took with her the couple’s five-year-old child and some jewelry, which the husband claims is his.

Since the case came to light, it has transpired that Rasheed was involved in a dispute with one of Kosh’s older sons from a previous marriage back in Pakistan. In order to take revenge on the family Rasheed seduced Kosh’s wife and convinced her to run away together with the couple’s young child.

Dasuqi arrived in the Kingdom as a maid a number of years ago and worked at a doctor’s home for a few months before she met Kosh. The couple got married eight years ago and have one son. It was through her husband that she met Rasheed.

According to Kosh’s lawyer, Omar Aidarous, the husband would allow his wife to visit neighbors and had no idea that she would elope.

Aidarous added that after Kosh realized that his wife had left him, he went into shock and suffered a heart attack, and spent time in intensive care.

Aidarous said that Jeddah police are taking the case seriously and have circulated descriptions of the wife and son, who are still missing. Passport Department officials have confirmed that Dasuqi is not among detained overstayers awaiting deportation.

Aidarous however revealed that the wife is presently at an unknown location and has let it be known that she is willing to return to her husband if he abandons the case.

However, Kosh is unwilling to drop charges. The case continues.
