JEDDAH, 26 June 2007 — Ford Middle East has announced a service campaign for Ford Mondeo vehicle models between 2002 and 2006 (produced prior to April 30, 2006) equipped with 2.0 liter I-4 engines. About 4,700 vehicles are estimated to be included in this campaign in the Kingdom, according to Ford Middle East.

“We are fully geared to service the specified cars,” an executive at Ford Mondeo’s local distributor Al-Jazirah Vehicles Agencies Co. Ltd. said yesterday.

“In rare circumstances, some Mondeo vehicles equipped with 2.0L I-4 gasoline engines may experience excessive current draw on the battery wiring, which may result in subsequent overheating and/or melting of the battery cable. In order to fully protect the vehicle in the rare event of excessive current draw, a revised battery positive cable with an integrated fuse should be fitted,” a representative of Ford Middle East’s customer service operations said. “In order to eliminate any risk of this event taking place with our customers’ cars, Ford dealers will replace the battery positive cables with fused ones at no extra charge to the customer,” he added. “We are determined to maintain the quality and integrity of our products and as always, the total satisfaction of our customers is our top priority,” he said.

In Dubai, the forensic department of Dubai Police found a manufacturing defect in the Ford Mondeo vehicles, which caused some of them to catch fire. As a result, Ford has urged all owners of the model manufactured between 2002 and 2004 to contact their Dubai dealer.
