RIYADH, 3 April 2007 — A police dragnet in Riyadh’s Al-Seli neighborhood yielded 34 illegal residents involved in a fencing racket from a number of warehouses, local newspapers reported yesterday.

In one storage unit police discovered approximately 1,000 Saudi military uniforms. The men arrested, all Asians without documentation, said they were in the process of delivering these uniforms from an Egyptian to an unknown recipient when the bust took place. One of the storage facilities actually belongs to the Riyadh Municipality, according to the police.

Land cables featured prominently among the stolen items that were being sold. The cables contain copper, whose resale value is about SR700 a kilogram.
